Excalibur is the legendary mythical sword of King Arthur, famously associated with Arthurian romance, magical powers, and the rightful sovereignty of Great Britain. Derived from the Welsh word Caledfwlch (meaning “hard-cleaving”), the weapon’s name evolved into Caliburnus through Geoffrey of Monmouth’s Latin writings before taking on its famous French-influenced name.
